500 Series Model Descriptions

Rocketeers

Singer Model 500 Sewing Machine

These machines are dubbed "Rocketeers" because of their distinctive styling.  The top of the arm is an oval that has reminded people of something out of science fiction.


Model 500
The Model 500 Sewing Machine

Slant shank, gear driven, internal motor, internal light, zigzag with cams and built in stitches, reverse, bed is 16.5" wide x 7" deep. Bobbin winder located under flip-up door on top of machine. Has drop in class 66 bobbin in front of needle position accessible by a slide plate. Threads front to back. Thread cutter built into back of presser bar. Machine has flip up door on top of arm that allows access of different cams for various stitches as well as access to the spool pins which pop up when the door is opened. Several stitches built in but is expandable through the use of additional cams. Stitches are selected via a large knob on the front of the machine above the light. Stitch width controlled by a sliding lever to the right of the stitch selector. Has rounded throat plate which raises instead of having feed dogs which lower. Machine uses either a straight stitch throat plate or a zigzag throat plate depending upon the stitching being done. Tan and cream in color. The top and handwheel on the machine is cream while the rest is tan.


Model 503
The Model 503 Sewing Machine

Slant shank, gear driven, internal motor, internal light, zigzag with cams, reverse, bed is 16.5" wide x 7" deep. Bobbin winder located under flip-up door on top of machine. Has drop in class 66 bobbin in front of needle position accessible by a slide plate. Threads front to back. Thread cutter built into back of presser bar. Machine has flip up door on top of arm that allows access of different cams for various stitches as well as bobbin winder and spool pins for twin needle sewing. One spool pin on the flip-up door. Must have replaceable cam to do any zigzag stitching. Needle position controlled by a position lever on front of machine above light. Width of zigzag stitches controlled by a sliding lever to the left of the needle position lever. Has rounded throat plate which raises instead of having feed dogs which lower. Machine uses either a straight stitch throat plate or a zigzag throat plate depending upon the stitching being done. Tan and cream in color. The top and handwheel on the machine is cream while the rest is tan.
